Our common Acadian ancestors, Jehan Thériault and Perrine Reau, from the Loudun region of Poitou, France, had only two sons who produced a progeny: Claude I and Germain I.
Claude I, born in 1637, married in Port-Royal in 1660, Marie Louise Gautrot, daughter of François and Edmée Lejeune; they had 14 children and their oldest son Germain II married Anne Richard in Port-Royal before the 1686 census. They had 11 children; their eldest son was named Claude II and married Marguerite Cormier in Grand-Pré in 1710.
Around the deportation period, some members of the Thériault family found haven in the Lower St. Lawrence region of Québec. Two sons of Claude II (Germain, Claude, Jehan) Thériault and Marguerite Cormier settled in St-Louis-de-Kamouraska and in St-Jean-Port-Joli:
- Paul and Anne Hébert, married in 1740 in St. Joseph church, Rivière-aux-Canards, Grand-Pré, and
- Joseph and Agnès Cormier, married in the same place in 1746.
- Paul (1716-1792) and Joseph (1719-1765) are the roots of two large Thériault family branches which started in Québec and spread out throughout Canada and the USA.
